Its construction was started by Man Singh I in 1592, and completed by his descendent Jai Singh I. At the foot of the hill you will mount your caparisoned elephant for the slow but steady climb up to the main gate, making your entrance in the time honored fashion. Built during the second half of the 16th century by the Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri (the City of Victory) was the capital of the Mughal Empire for approx 13 years. The complex of monuments and temples all in a uniform architectural style includes one of the largest mosques in India the Jama Masjid. The many different buildings within the Fatehpur Sikri complex determine different architectural designs. It is believed to showcase secularity by engaging archetypal designs and elements of different religions like Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. It is a rich collection of ancient Buddhist relics and antiques comprising numerous Buddha and Bodhisattva images on display at the Archaeological Museum (closed on Friday).
